Book Review- The Hunger Games

So this was a hard book for me to read at the very beginning, I must admit. It didn't seem to fit my expectations in the first two chapters of reading when I picked it up about a while back. I didn't quite understand the appeal.. the characters seemed to lack depth for me. The writing seemed choppy and it just didn't quite flow, and it became hard for me to follow what the characters were thinking and going through. It was definitely very far from our daily lives today, and maybe that contributed to the fact i just couldn't see it happening. I just simply could not relate. Well, recently, after realizing i was losing myself to the voids that needed to be filled with imaginary worlds and literature... I decided to pick it up again and try it out. Since I had never gotten past the first two chapters to begin with, I decided it needed a proper chance.
I now understand. I now understand all of the hype and hysteria over this book. The more i got into it, the better it got... The more i kept praying i wouldn't be bothered for another minute, just so that i can finish THIS ONE PAGE. Then that page became two.. then three. So after beginning it I didn't want to do anything but FINISH it. I found myself biting my fingernails and twisting my hair with my brow furrowed as I worried and fretted over the characters.  It was definitely worth it. I am going to begin the second book soon, and I look forward to seeing the movie whenever it does come out! Everyone should see the trailer though.. now. And since we all have the right to be lazy on Monday evenings and don't want to open a new tab... i'll make it easier for you.. HERE!!!

Summary:

Twenty-four are forced to enter. Only the winner survives. In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. Each year, the districts are forced by the Capitol to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the Hunger Games, a brutal and terrifying fight to the death - televised for all of Panem to see.

Survival is second nature for sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who struggles to feed her mother and younger sister by secretly hunting and gathering beyond the fences of District 12. When Katniss steps in to take the place of her sister in the Hunger Games, she knows it may be her death sentence. If she is to survive, she must weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

This summary is not my own, but can be found here.

-Overall I would give this book an 8/10. Which I would consider PRETTY GOOD! Definite page-turner and good read.
